Krista's actions
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 30 minutes each day.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 30 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Nature
Tend a Garden
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard or local community garden.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of plants and trees at my home or work.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.
Simplicity
Limit Social Media
I will limit my social media use to once each day reducing my daily use by 15 minute(s)
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go For A Daily Walk OutsideFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Krista Gonzalez 4/08/2021 5:36 AMI feel stronger, more relaxed, and revived. It's easy to forget how much we all need a break from work or whatever is going on around us. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Less Screen TimeWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Krista Gonzalez 4/06/2021 9:22 AMIt's never too hard to find other activities since I'm on a computer all day for work. I love to read, exercise, spend time walking outside, and tending to our yard and garden. Our family also loves board games so we do this quite a bit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Krista Gonzalez 4/06/2021 9:18 AMI grow fruits, veggies and flowers in patio containers at our house. It's much easier to maintain and keeps them away from most critters (although not groundhogs who have knocked them over). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Krista Gonzalez 4/06/2021 9:16 AMTurning off lights, computers, monitors which are the biggest items left on at our house. We also use programmable thermostats which help to not run more cooling/heating than what we need when we typically aren't here or asleep. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Krista Gonzalez 4/06/2021 9:11 AMIt doesn't surprise me at all. My family has a way to go with reducing our food waste. I have found what helps is to plan meals and freezing items before they go bad. I would much rather use that money for vacation!
