Thank you to the CHS science department for rallying a team to participate in this challenge.  It's been fun!
And, thank you to CHS Green Team for this week's theme days.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Disconnect from Email
Notice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?

    Jen Wadsworth's avatar
    Jen Wadsworth 4/21/2021 4:24 PM
I feel more calm and focused on family this week as I've disconnected from checking school email in the evening.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

    Jen Wadsworth's avatar
    Jen Wadsworth 4/21/2021 4:21 PM
I have a goal for starting a compost bin for fruit & veggies scraps.  I have not started yet, but as I've been eating more fruits & veggies (less processed food!) I am realizing how much scrap is tossed in the trash.  Once up and running, my plan is to use the compost with my herb and flower pots this summer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Jen Wadsworth's avatar
    Jen Wadsworth 4/21/2021 4:14 PM
    - I can skip the straw.
    - I skip the bag for veggies & fruit at the grocery store when only purchasing 1-2 of something.  Example: single pepper or bunch of bananas.  And when using a veggie bag, skip the twist tie. Instead, tie a knot in the bag.
    - I can swap sandwich bags for reusable containers when packing lunches or packing snack s for trips.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Do Nature Activities
What did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch?

    Jen Wadsworth's avatar
    Jen Wadsworth 4/21/2021 7:38 AM
Could definitely smell that our local farmers are preparing their fields by fertilizing!  LOL!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Simplicity De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more unnecessary things in the future?

    Jen Wadsworth's avatar
    Jen Wadsworth 4/19/2021 11:23 AM
I can buy only what I need.
As we approach birthdays and holidays, I can suggest gift ideas to family so we aren't receiving unnecessary things.

I did this for this past Christmas holiday.  I have everything I need but I did need something replaced.  So that is what I got. Plus some homemade desserts.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

    Jen Wadsworth's avatar
    Jen Wadsworth 4/19/2021 9:02 AM
I feel more calm when I get "outside time" versus when I'm couped up in the house.  Spending too much time indoors can add to stress and anxiety issues.  We all need fresh air!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Jen Wadsworth's avatar
    Jen Wadsworth 4/19/2021 8:58 AM
I can turn off lights when not in a room, and turn off electronics when not in use.  In our house, we have a bad habit of having the TV on in the background while doing other things.  I can turn the TV off and be present in what I'm doing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

    Jen Wadsworth's avatar
    Jen Wadsworth 4/11/2021 7:59 AM
I would like be consistent in my sleep patterns.  To achieve this goal, I can stick to a schedule. I can avoid procrastinating with schoolwork and chores, and tackle these things earlier in the day.
