Hans's actions
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Energy
Submit Solar Air Heater Article to SOLAR ENERGY JOURNAL
Just submitted my article, titled "Prototyping Solar Air Heater Absorbers Using 3D-Printing Techniques," to the Solar Energy Journal. It includes 5 of my inventions / 2 years of solar energy research. This will be a "ONE-TIME ACTION"
Nature
Mulch around Landscaping
Every spring I weed (not so much fun) the landscaped areas around the house and then put fresh mulch down (the fun part ... because it looks so nice)
Waste
Trash Cleanup along side of road
Every year we clean up trash along the side of our road. This year we collected 42 lbs. of trash.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Branches to Mulch-Site - Mulch to Home
I bring branches and dead tree limbs to the Township's Mulch Site - They grind it up - They turn it into mulch - Township residents can bring the mulch home for free. Township policy: You have to load up the mulch into your trailer yourself. In April this is a 'weekly' activity for me. (Weekly Action)
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Learn About Renewable Energy
I will spend 10 minutes learning more about renewable energy alternatives (i.e. solar, wind, biomass) in my region.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
