There are so many.  But plastic has become one that I can't shift my focus from.  I think the nature of how quick we are to throw away things is concerning.  We don't fix things- and why would we... it's made of crappy plastic.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Switching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!  And did I mention, vote?!  In addition to voting for candidates who will push for climate action, I write to my representatives to advocate environmental protection and climate action!

To what extent do environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?

    Audrey Wronski's avatar

I've recently learned a lot about how air quality can effect health.  And how there can be air quality issues that are harder to notice.  Once I got more in tune with air quality issues in the are, I would start to notice that there were some days I felt rather lethargic or quicker to get winded, and they were often correlated with poor air quality days.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Audrey Wronski's avatar
    Audrey Wronski 4/20/2021 8:10 AM
Natural gas and nuclear are the two biggest sources, followed by coal. From what I can find my area uses around 6% renewables.  The positives are that the nuclear energy won't release CO2 or particulate matter.  The coal certainly is not good for air quality or CO2 emissions
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Eco-friendly Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

    Audrey Wronski 4/20/2021 8:01 AM
I'm don't really know for sure, but I think one of the biggest would be pollution.  Runoff from agriculture, which is big here, as well as runoff from impervious surfaces.  it all contributes to contamination downstream and in the Chesapeake bay.

How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

Hiking is a great form of exercise which always leaves me feeling more alert.  It also is time away from screens which helps in so many ways too.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How well do you know the area you stay in -- whether your hometown or your campus community? In what ways is a deep knowledge of your surroundings -- known as a 'sense of place' -- important to you?

    Audrey Wronski 4/15/2021 11:27 AM
Carlisle is my hometown and I teach at CHS which was my school.  I know the school well and can really compare what it WAS like to what it is like.  I also find that I've learned a lot more about the town as an adult and see it in a new way since moving back here a few years ago
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Audrey Wronski's avatar
    Audrey Wronski 4/15/2021 11:26 AM
I think my first step is paying closer attention to my energy bills so that I really take in how much I'm truly saving by making these changes.  Then I'll probably use the money for even more energy saving strategies.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Audrey Wronski's avatar
    Audrey Wronski 4/15/2021 11:25 AM
One of my favorite forms of exercise is hiking.  I get good leg work outs, some cardio, and can socialize with friends or play with my dog while hiking.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Audrey Wronski's avatar
    Audrey Wronski 4/12/2021 10:23 AM
Covid exposed a lot of ugly truths about how the meat industry treats its workers, not to mention the animals.  I find that when I cook for myself, I use very little meat but its become such a habit when eating out or cooking for others.  I thin this is evidence of being in a wealthy country.  My habit that is mindless is an expensive commodity elsewhere.
